Metaphysical Poetry

Metaphysical poets were a group of 17th century English poets. They were intellectuals and loved to learn and they wanted others to learn through their works as well. Donne, Marvell, Crashaw, Cleveland and many others were a part of this sophisticated group.
These poets created lyrics from a desire of expressing metaphysical ideas. They expressed a " philosophy investigating principles of reality transcending those of any particular science". Often they would express this idea of metaphysics through an argument, whether it was with themselves or with God...it could be a number of things they were angry about. In a time of transition and change I could understand their frustration and why they decided to question. With branches of the church popping up everywhere at the time I completely understand why they would begin to question it even in the art form of poetry.
This form of poetry shows the heart and soul of the author in a more unconventional way. However, I do enjoy the fact that it written with simple diction, which expresses the times everyday speech rather than an eloquent or formal speech.

...okay thats all I have to express about Metaphysical Poetry for now. Ill come back and express more thoughts later. THANKS!
